Is a hair patch safe for your scalp?
A hair system is non-surgical and non-medicated, so the risks are skin risks, not systemic ones — and they are all manageable.
The three real risks
Contact dermatitis from adhesive. We patch-test on the inner arm before your first bond.
Folliculitis from trapped sweat, most common on skin bases in Mumbai summers. Breathable bases and shorter bond cycles fix it.
Traction loss from micro-ring attachment tied too tight, or from pulling a bonded unit off dry.
The routine that prevents problems
Wash the bonded area twice a week with a system-safe shampoo, never hot water.
Re-bond every three to six weeks and let the scalp breathe for a few hours at each visit.
Never sleep with a wet system on.
Come in immediately if you see redness, itching or small pustules — do not wait for the next scheduled visit.
Scalp health in a humid climate
The safety questions that matter in Mumbai are different from the ones asked in a dry climate. Here the risk is not the adhesive itself - it is what grows under a base that never gets to dry.
Folliculitis at the bonded perimeter is the most common complaint we see, and in almost every case it traces back to a wear cycle stretched too long through the monsoon rather than to a bad product. A scalp that gets a few hours of air between removal and re-bond very rarely has problems.
The one genuinely unsafe attachment is weaving or stitching a system into your own hair and leaving it. Sustained traction on the same follicles causes traction alopecia, and unlike adhesive irritation, that damage is permanent. We do not offer it.
Before you commit: a checklist
Take this to any studio, including ours. If a supplier will not answer these plainly, that is the answer.
- 1Insist on a scalp inspection at every service visit, not just a re-bond.
- 2Stop and get seen if you develop persistent redness, itching or small pustules at the perimeter.
- 3Let the scalp breathe between removal and re-bond - a few hours is enough.
- 4Patch-test any new adhesive on the forearm before it goes near your scalp.
- 5Refuse any attachment that puts continuous tension on your own hair.
