When a system repair is the wrong answer
We would rather lose an order than fit the wrong system, so here is where this service stops being the right purchase.
Repair stops being worth it once a base has more than about three tears in it. At that point you are paying repeatedly to postpone a replacement, and each repair adds stiffness that makes the next tear more likely. We will say so rather than take the work.
It is also the wrong service for a unit whose hair has degraded rather than whose base has failed. Once hair has oxidised, matted or been over-processed, a full refill costs close to a new unit - and a new unit gives you a fresh base as well.
Aftercare schedule for a system repair
The purchase price is only part of what you commit to. This is the servicing rhythm that keeps a system repair at the top of its lifespan range rather than the bottom.

Hair System Repair — questions we get asked
- Is repair always cheaper than replacing?
- Usually, but not always. Once a base has more than three tears we recommend replacing it.
- How much hair can be added?
- Front refills of two to three centimetres are routine. Full refills are possible but priced close to a new unit.
- Do you repair non-custom units?
- Yes, including stock units bought online.
