Comparison
Tape Attachment vs Clip-In Attachment
BeforeAfterThe short answer
Nothing bonded, or nothing pulling
Tape sticks to the scalp and needs healthy skin. Clips grip your own hair and need healthy anchor hair. Both are fully removable, and neither commits you to anything.
If you have hair around the area and it is strong, clips avoid adhesive entirely — the only attachment with no climate penalty at all. If your anchor hair is fragile, or there is not enough of it, tape puts the load on skin instead of on follicles, which is the safer trade.

The case for each
Tape Attachment
Double-sided medical tape around the perimeter. Removable at home, gentle on skin and the easiest system to self-manage.
In its favour
- Self-serviceable
- Kind to the scalp
- Cheap to maintain
Against it
- Loosens fastest in humidity
- Not ideal for contact sport
Clip-In Attachment
Pressure-sensitive clips that grip your own hair. Nothing adhesive, on and off in seconds, and completely reversible.
In its favour
- No adhesive at all
- On and off in seconds
- Nothing permanent
Against it
- Needs healthy anchor hair
- Clip positions must be rotated
How we would decide it with you
At a consultation this is settled by looking, not by discussing. We assess the loss area in daylight, check the hair around it, and ask how you actually live — how much you sweat, whether you ride, whether you swim, whether anyone sees you at conversation distance all day.
Both options above are things we make, so there is nothing for us to gain by steering you. The wrong specification costs us a remake and costs you a year, which is why we template before we quote.
Still not sure which?
Tell us your stage of loss and we'll give you a straight recommendation between these two — including when the answer is neither.
Tape Attachment vs Clip-In Attachment — FAQs
- Tape Attachment or Clip-In Attachment — which is better?
- Neither is universally better. Tape sticks to the scalp and needs healthy skin. Clips grip your own hair and need healthy anchor hair. Both are fully removable, and neither commits you to anything.
- Which costs more, tape attachment or clip-in attachment?
- Tape Attachment: Attachment method. Clip-In Attachment: Attachment method. Comparing headline prices is misleading on its own — the number that matters is the twelve-month cost including servicing and replacement, and the two options are rarely on the same replacement cycle.
- Can I switch from one to the other later?
- Yes. We keep your scalp template on file, so a replacement can be ordered on a different specification without re-measuring. Plenty of clients keep two systems on rotation with different builds to compare them in real wear.
