If you still have hair at the sides and back, a patch uses it — it blends into it, and the unit only has to cover what is missing. A full wig covers the entire head with a cap measured to your circumference, which is more coverage, more weight and more cost.

Buying a wig while you still have usable anchor hair means paying for coverage you are not using and wearing something warmer than you need. The exception is medical loss, where the anchor hair is about to go regardless — in which case ordering the wig early, while colour and density can still be matched to your real hair, is the right call.

Against it
